Twitter founder says ads are boring

19 05 2009 - Biz Stone, who helped start Twitter, told Reuters that the short-message service won’t turn to ads to make money.

Advertising, Stone said at the Reuters Technology Summit, is “just not quite as interesting to us.”

Though the San Francisco company, which Stone started with chief executive officer Evan Williams and Jack Dorsey, has become incredibly popular, but hasn’t yet figured out how to make money off its users. Stone said the company could use extra features to bring in revenue.

Reuters reported Stone pooh-poohing the idea of hiring advertising staff: “There are no people at Twitter who know anything about advertising.”

But the business plans to double its employees to about 80 people by the end of the year.

News reports have hinted that both Facebook and Google have been sniffing around Twitter, looking to buy it or work out an advertising deal.
